Assam Elections 2026: Polling Teams Sent Early to Remote Karbi Anglong Stations
In a bid to ensure smooth conduct of the Assam Assembly Elections 2026, election authorities have dispatched polling teams in advance to remote areas of Karbi Anglong. A total of 21 teams were flagged off on Tuesday from Diphu Government College, two days ahead of polling scheduled on April 9.
Key Announcements / Highlights
- 21 polling teams sent to remote hill polling stations
- Covering three constituencies: Bokajan, Howraghat, and Diphu
- 11,021 registered voters across these stations
- Early deployment aimed at overcoming accessibility challenges
Official Statement
District Election Officer Aranyak Saikia flagged off the teams and acknowledged the logistical challenges involved. He stated that the commitment of polling personnel is essential to ensuring free and fair elections, particularly in difficult terrains where access remains limited.
He also emphasised that timely deployment would help guarantee that every eligible voter in these remote areas can exercise their democratic right.
Context / Background
Karbi Anglong is one of Assam’s largest hill districts, known for its rugged terrain and limited connectivity in interior regions. Many polling stations in constituencies such as Bokajan, Howraghat, and Diphu are located in areas that are difficult to reach, especially during adverse weather.
In some cases, polling personnel must rely on four-wheel-drive vehicles or undertake long treks to reach their assigned locations, particularly if rainfall disrupts road access.
Public Impact
The early dispatch of polling teams is critical to maintaining electoral inclusivity. It ensures that voters in remote and underserved regions are not excluded from the democratic process due to geographical barriers.
Out of the 11,021 voters in these locations, 5,619 are men and 5,402 are women. The distribution includes 3,483 voters in Bokajan, 6,468 in Howraghat, and 1,070 in Diphu’s Jawlian area.
With polling day approaching, authorities are prioritising logistical readiness in challenging terrains. The advance movement of polling teams reflects efforts to uphold voter access and election integrity, even in the most remote parts of the state.
